On Saturday Oct. 11th during the TAG Fall Cave-In the Roberts, Jen Loughran, and Adam Scherer made the hike down to Lost Cove Cave, also known as Buggytop. The cave is known for it's massive entrance which is about 100 ft wide and 80 ft high. This entrance is situated in a bluff that's about 150 ft high. Impressive... especially since a stream pours out from the entrance. Outside the Roberts found a feeding salamander (endangered?) in this stream. Cold air from the cave can sometimes be felt a half mile down the creek valley.
We made our way into the cave after a few entrance pics, and stopped to reflect on the huge skylight a few hundred feet in. Following the stream to Lost Cove's largest room, about 200 x 300 ft, Sean then began to take pictures, as usual. Meanwhile Jen and Adam explored further up the stream, and found some translucent spiders that appeared to be cave adapted.
Wanting to make the lighting of the bonfire we decided to exit and began the hike up the mountain, and back to the truck. This easy hike took no time at all, but we somehow still managed to miss the lighting. Sean ended up getting some great pics, and everyone had a good time. Buggytop Rules!
