TAG Fall Cave In 2001 - Thursday

Bill Walker

I drove up to TAG on Wednesday night with the Roberts family. I went to their new house around 7, and the plan was to sleep for a few hours before leaving at midnight. Whatever! I tried to sleep, but couldn't, and they were still packing because of car problems earlier in the day. It got to be around 12, and we decided to just drive up there without out any sleep. We always end up doing this horrible all night drive to TAG. The last time we went up to TAG we drove all night and did Neversink first thing in the morning. After that trip, it shall forever be called Neversleep.

We got to the campground around 8am Thursday morning. Bill Birdsall, Brian Houha, and Buford Pruitt were already there. We set up our tents, relaxed a little bit, and enjoyed the beautiful weather before setting off for Signal Light Pit.

We arrived at the fireworks store and found that all the parking spaces in the back were occupied by a large semi, so we went inside to ask the cute girl if we could park up front. She said it was all right and asked us what our out time would be. We all looked at each other - only in TAG!

We only got to do a small portion of the cave, about 1/5. The part we saw was pretty cool, though. The Roberts were taking pictures, so I went off on my own and looked at some side passage. There are some really cool, heavily formated (I think I just made that word up) domes near the first big room. The lower stream level is also neat. It is about 15 -20' below the main trunk, and offers some cool climb downs to it. We couldn't go too far into the cave because the climbing got a little technical and we had Brandon with us, so we turned around and left.
