FLORIDA WINTER RIDGEWALK
By Bill Walker
The beginning
of 2002 was a very productive time for Sean Roberts and I. It was
a month after my neck surgery and I was unemployed, so I had tons
of free time on my hands. Sean and I literally caved 5 days a week!
We spent most of our time ridgewalking when I should have been looking
for a job. They were good times though, and they lasted for a couple
of months. We found many new caves for the survey and located digs
that we are still working on now.
These pictures are from two different walks in the woods. The first
set is from the first week in February when I was still wearing
my neck brace. The second set is a couple of weeks later after I
was released from my medical restrictions (no physical activity
- caving doesn't count, right?)

cave near Gremlin.

Checking out a hole in the same quarry, with GPS in hand
on
a frigid Florida February day.
A little colder day a few weeks later. "Hey look Sean,
it's a cave!"
Sean found this entrance about 1/2 mile away from Poison Ivy,
our most promising secret dig. (Notice the yellow Cave Persuader)
A very sharp, cherty squeeze.
This tight entrance leads to a very small room that ends
in a 4 inch wide crack
that blows in your face. We think that this is going to be the
back door to
the Poison Ivy mega system.
