CAVE CRAWL - HOLLOW RIDGE TRIP

By Woody Vinzant

For the last day of the cavort, we decided to do a small cave. We heard it was muddy but easy. I talked to the group from DiveRite and they were going along too. So we all headed up to Allen Mosler's land where the cave is. No one told us that it was over an hour and a half from the campground. But we came to cave, so we did.

There was about 12 or so cavers along. We had a good group. Dan, Lamar and the rest of the DiveRite's were (as always) a lot of fun. I always enjoy caving with them. We geared up and slid into the entrance of what almost looks like a storm drain. We crawled in some of the stickiest mud I've ever seen. I helped some of the new lady cavers from DiveRite at the slippery climbs and tight spots. I tried to take some pictures, but my body was steaming so bad, that almost all the caving pictures were foggy.

After an hour and a half or so and after looking at some nice little formations, Allen said we were going to leave. But he started out another way than we came in. I told him there were 2 people who didn't do a squeeze and were waiting back further. Matt and I volunteered to go back and lead them out the way we came in.

There is a lot more cave here than we saw. I'd like to do a more complete trip sometime. But with the size of the group we had, we saw all we could. After exiting the cave, we all went down to the river to swim/ cool off/ clean our gear off from all the mud. We had fun splashing and kidding around before we had to pack up.

The boys and I still needed to break camp before heading home. Lamar Hires invited us to eat dinner with his group first. So we all had a good meal at Sonny's BBQ. After eating we dashed back, packed up camp and headed home.

It was a good ending to a wonderful weekend.
